OK, Rytas & JW that's great. You're behind the lens and who's that between JJ and Nicki? I've asked Mac who the Girl in Blue is with her back to you.

Rytas's son!

Ben Richter takes the Hatchet Throwing Crown with 37!!!

After the New Champion Ben Richter's 37 consecutive hatchet sticks, JJ Jackson (L), whose record of 33 had stood for over two years, replied, "I need a rematch!!" Paul Heine (in chigger-resistant knee socks (Right) presents Ben Richter (Center) with a certificate and a prize of flowers. Thirty-seven anyone?? Considering this was Ben's first go at hatchet throwing, practice is apparently no good. Either the latent potential is there, or it isn't!!

Convergent Evolution

Ever notice how forest soil scientists all begin to look alike? A great shot of two of the best...

Convergent Evolution, Dude

Maybe they look cooler in shades. Still, the resemblance is scary! Meg, Julie, Jianwei, see what we'll look like in ten years?

Dan and Squirrel

Dan and Squirrel bonding. Though Squirrel found it a bit difficult to relate to a large group of roudy university-types, complete with confederate do-rag, he warmed and opened up, if only while sipping his Mason Jar of caffeinated Mockel!! The next morning Squirrel dropped by at 730am to teach Jian Wei how to shoot a .30-06 ("30 ought 6") at the Calhoun campground's target range. Squirrel found it difficult to conceive of Jian Wei never having the experience of shooting a rifle.

Dan throwing hatchets

Richter made 21 straight sticks this night!! The hatchet target and target stand had been newly constructed by Jason Jackson. The target was constructed from a three-inch thick oak cookie, reinforced in the back. The stand made of 2x6s. Rules for the evening were approximately that each person threw two sets of four hatchets. The first person to reach ten sticks being the winner. Simple rules, gotta win by two. If a thrower is hot and reaches 10 straight sticks in a row, the thrower continues throwing until a miss. The all-time Calhoun record is 37 straight sticks held by Ben Richter, with Jason Jackson in second place with an incredible 33.
